About
Arekipe is the project of  Berlin-based, Colombian sound artist Juan Felipe Ramirez, across bass-driven, genre-fluid electronic music. Working with amen derived rhythms, and dub-informed structures, Arekipe builds music from repetition, interruption, psychedelia and decay. His approach favors composition, tactile sampling and rhythmic instability; often pushing abrasive structures, vocals, drums, bass and rainforest energy into psychedelic spaces.

Drawing from jungle, dub, tekno, ambient, noise, and south american musical traditions, his work balances physical drive with abstraction, allowing chaos and structure to flirt. The result is music that is dense and immersive, shaped as much by texture and space as by syncopation. Raised between Cali and Medellín and initially trained as a clarinetist, Juan Felipe brings a compositional sensibility to electronic production. Since relocating to Berlin in 2022 to study a bachelors in music production, his practice has expanded across live performance, hybrid DJ formats, sound for screen, and installation contexts.

His 2024 EP Yes Lord!!! (Shepard Tone Recordings), released under his former alias Monsieur Philippe, marked a transition toward a more focused and deliberate artistic language—forming the conceptual groundwork for Arekipe.
